We have
recently completed this wonderful Barn Conversion in Appersett, Hawes.
The original barn was attached to the main dwelling and used as a domestic
workshop and storage with a Pit used for vehicle repairs. Part of the
works were to suitably fill in the pit while providing adequate surface water
drainage within it to reduce the amount of water retained in the pit due to the
high water table and surface water run off from the surrounding agricultural
fields.
The main
brief from the client was to convert the barn for domestic use for additional
living space for the existing dwelling. While having to keep certain features
of the existing to satisfy planning (i.e. External Steel Beam support for the
original large Barn doors and internal King Post Trusses), the new space
provides a large Lounge with Log burning stove, an additional double bedroom
with en-suite and a mezzanine floor area to be used as a Study.
The use
of natural oak for the staircase, balustrade, skirtings and architraves
provides a wonderful finish contrasting with the original traditional King Post
Trusses and the new black stove and flue. We have been involved with the
Planning, Building Regulations, Tender and Project Management throughout the
project. The Main Contractor was WB Construction Ltd of Darlington.
