The
project was to demolish an existing detached bungalow and separate garage and
to provide a new, timber frame, Eco Bungalow in replacement. Due to the curve
of the roof, the structural frame was built from Glulam (Glue Laminated Timber)
and SIPs (Structural Insulated Panels) were used to construct the external
walls. The use of SIPs creates a highly insulated envelope which is extremely
airtight, thus reducing the requirement for heating which reduces energy bills
and the carbon footprint.
The
design incorporates an air source heat pump, external Siberian Larch timber
cladding which is low maintenance, and a sedum/grass roof to reduce the amount
of surface water run off.
